The US Education and Mentorship Summer Program
When students from around the world engage in a shared learning experience, there are special moments created--moments filled with excitement, curiosity, and an eagerness to learn more about one another and the world around them.
The US Education and Mentorship Program welcomes students from around the world and gives them the opportunity to meet with mentors from top-tier US universities, as they communicate with one another, meet other students, explore the San Francisco Bay Area together, exchange cultural perspectives, and share new learning experiences. Students will forge invaluable bonds with their mentors—mentors who may provide insight regarding what it is like to study at a US university—and will be exposed to American culture in the form of first-hand, personal experiences. This 18-day summer program is primarily for students from ages 13 to 17, and is hosted by the Yeung Tutorial Group (YTG). Though it will begin at the YTG center, it will then take place in various locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. This experience will engage students as they partake in different events, outings, activities--or “Acts”-- with their mentors and other students. Aspects of the program:
- Activities: These encompass “Acts” that will occur on different days and will be a variety of events, outings, and shared sessions. These Acts include: UCB Welcoming; Team Orientation; The University of California, Berkeley Tour; Major League Baseball Show Case; and eight more exciting Acts.
- Homestay Program: Housing will be providing for students in the form of a Home Stay. A Home Stay is one in which families and working individuals welcome students into their homes, and make a commitment to care for a child until the child is returned to his or her family.
- Safety: Important safety precautions are taken for every participant. The mentor-to-child ratio is 1-to-5, and some mentors will have received first-aid/CPR training. A vehicle will also be present everywhere during the program, which will also be for emergency situations.
